Hamish walked in April 2005 during the recuperation period between cruciate ligament operations. The walk starts from a National Trust car-park, which is situated North West of Dulverton and about 1.5 miles from the B3223. The car-park is signposted from the B road. At the time of our visit parking cost £1. Note there is no roadside parking due to the narrowness of the country lanes. The car-park has toilets and a 'dog toilet area'. There is also an outside cold water tap and litter bins.
Go through gate near to toilets and follow clear path downhill away from car-park (path runs parallel to lane on your right hand side). Path joins lane near bottom of hill close to an Inn. Continue down lane to reach River Barle then cross over river via Tarr Steps (ancient bridge).
TURN RIGHT and follow footpath with river on your right hand side (up stream) for about 1 mile. Cross stepping stones over stream joining from your left hand side. Then go over river via footbridge (note tree grabber on way don't try and cross this).
TURN RIGHT after footbridge and return to Tarr Steps via opposite river bank (downstream). At Steps TURN LEFT and return to car park via your earlier route. Hamish and his people enjoyed an ice cream from the kiosk near the Steps before doing this!
