Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons 1 mile easy (options for longer walks)

Tia walked from The Bear of Rodborough Hotel during a stay there.  Non residents can start from nearby public parking areas on Rodborough Common. If you are visiting the dog friendly Bear Bar after the walk you may be able to use the hotel car park, we suggest you check this with the hotel before setting out.  This is a 20 minute short circular walk from the hotel via lanes and paths with pleasant views and attractive stone buildings. The walk goes onto the edge of Minchinhampton Common and those wanting a longer walk can explore the common before returning to the hotel.

Leave the hotel car park via a small gate next to the cattle grid. Turn left and walk along pavement passing the hotel. At road junction with Bear Hill turn left downhill and then immediately left again along a small lane signposted to Houndscroft and St Chloe passing hotel now on your left hand side (LHS). Follow this lane going gently downhill, noting but ignoring two green footpath markers on your LHS. Shortly after the second footpath marker you will pass a National Trust sign for Rodborough Common on your right hand side (RHS), there are good views out over the valley here.

Shortly after passing Houndscroft House on your LHS the lane bends to the right. Bear left here onto a driveway and then turn left uphill on a rough green pathway / track between two wooden posts.

Go uphill and bear right to follow stone wall. Continue gently uphill with wall on RHS to reach a house called Moor Court at edge of Minchinhampton Common. For those wanting the short walk turn left and follow a grassy path gently uphill to reach a small lane beside a large building called Amberley Ridge. Continue on lane passing Amberley Ridge on your LHS then onto grass path to reach pavement and road leading back down to The Bear of Rodborough Hotel.

The walk can easily be extended by doing a circuit of Minchinhampton Common. Alternatively walk back down the road, go past the hotel and go out onto Rodborough Common where there are great views.
