Walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve (1.5 miles easy)

Harbour Road, Rye Harbour, East Sussex.

Free parking was available at the time we walked in the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve car park at the sea end of Harbour Road - near the coastguard station and Martello tower. There are public toilets nearby. We did this walk with Lottie in April 2017 after staying at Kiln Cottage, Rye (managed by Cottages.com) about 2 miles from Rye Harbour.

This is an easy circular flat walk mainly on a surfaced path (access road) and partly on a pebbled path. From the car park cross the road to reach a surfaced access road to the nature reserve. We did a clockwise circuit passing Lime Kiln Cottage, then bearing right to walk parallel to the beach and turned right on a stony path back round through Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Lottie was off the lead for most of the walk and enjoyed the scents and playing with several other dogs. There are a number of information boards along the route about the marshes and regular dog poop bins.

When you get back to the car park there is an option to walk a little further to see the lifeboat memorial. Walk along the road round the bend towards the village to reach Rye Harbour church on your left. The churchyard has a memorial to 17 lifeboat men, the entire crew of ‘Mary Stanford’ who lost their lives attempting a rescue on 15th November 1928. Follow the road back to the car park.
