A dog friendly walk from DogPeople
Fisherground circular via Irton Fell, Whin Rigg and Illgill Head (hard)
- Map - Outdoor Leisure 6: The English Lakes South-western area
- Distance - 11 miles – total ascent ascents 3050 feet.
- Stiles - None
- Date walked - 25 June 2012
Lottie walked this route on 25 June 2012. We deviated slightly from the direct route we planned to take in views and because a wooded section was closed due to harvesting (necessitating a diversion via a lesser path).
The route starts at Fisherground Lodges where we were staying (NY1524 0011). If not staying an alternative is to start from The King George IV (parking for patrons) in Eskdale Green and walk along the road towards Boot and join the footpath to Eskdale Common via the drive to Fisherground Farm. The path then passes between farm buildings and runs along an enclosed green lane to the railway where it crosses via gates and a pedestrian crossing.
An alternative starting point could be Miterdale car par at NY 145 011 as the route crosses the road to it on the way out and passes the parking on the way back The route will then be shorter.
After Fisherground the route goes via Miterdale Forest, Irton Fell, Whin Rigg, Illgill Head, Tongue Moor and Low Place.
