Park in the Forestry Commission car park at grid reference SO 564 158. This is well served by toilets and a refreshment / information point. There was a £2 parking charge.
There are a number of marked routes through the woods. It is best to buy a leaflet at the information point if you chose to follow one of these as the colour coded marking can otherwise be confusing.
There is easy access to the Rock from the car park. This gives excellent views across the Wye Valley as it curls around the rock. The RSPB also facilitate observation of Peregrine nests in season.
There is any easy walk into Symonds Yat East and the Wye riverfront (steadily uphill on the return journey). Other routes allow access to the Wye Valley Walk. The woods include some of the most ancient in the country and provide a wide range of alternative routes.
Car parking is also available at the Forestry Commission campsite near Christchurch . A shop there can provide the guided walk leaflet. This might be a good option for those wanting a longer walk to Symonds Yat Rock or those who want to try the rope bridge over the Wye first.
