This is one of the walks recommended by The Steadings in their walks pack for guests. Hamish walked whilst staying there (15 minutes drive away). The Den offers a variety of short burn-side walks through mature woods. Hamish completed the main 'loop' but there are shorter options and opportunity to walk a little further if you wish.
There are three car parks for the Den. Hamish started from the first (NO 235 486), nearest to the town of Alyth. From there he joined a path opposite the car park entrance (to the right of a large stone 'walks leaflet store' and by a scoop bin). He followed a clear path DOWN to a field (with children's play area in the opposite corner). TURN RIGHT to follow a clear path down to the right hand bank of the burn.
CROSS A FOOTBRIDGE over the burn then follow a clear path uphill at first. Keep to the path along the top of a ridge (cliff top) with the burn on your right hand side. Follow the path as it descends to a metal bench then to the LEFT A LITTLE, still down hill (don't turn hard right and towards the burn). Keep to the path through the woods until you reach a metalled lane by a stone bridge.
TURN RIGHT on the lane and go over the bridge (note sign pointing left up the lane to Drimmie Woods and another car park just beyond steps on your right hand side). TURN RIGHT down the steps and follow a clear path back along the burn bank. Pass an iron and wood footbridge, then the footbridge you crossed earlier. Immediately after the second bridge FORK LEFT uphill. KEEP YOUR DOG(S) UNDER CLOSE CONTROL as you soon reach the lane. You need to bear right just before the lane, keeping inside the woods until you regain the car park … but your dog(s) may stray on to the road unless you are careful.
