East Sussex

  • Map - Explorer 135
  • Distance - Endless combinations
  • Stiles - Very few anywhere on the forest

The forest provides tens of square miles of excellent dog walking country with dozens of car parks. Much of the area is heath-land rather than being heavily wooded but there is ample opportunity to experience both types of countryside. The rolling hills provide great views. Some sections of the forest have sheep loose for some of the year.
There are so many options individual walk suggestions can not be included on this page ? but we will welcome any dog friendly contributions that meet our walks criteria and data use conditions.
One of our favourite spots is the Hollies - car park at grid reference TQ 463 286. This is in a heath-land section of the forest with opportunity for circular walks of various lengths. There are views south (northerly views available from the car park on the opposite side of the road). The main track heading away from the road (south) leads downhill to a memorial for the crew of Wellington bomber lost on operations in WW2. One of the crew was from our home town in Kent. The walk to and from the memorial will be enough for some dogs and can be easily extended for those who wish to do so.
