Hamsterley Forest is a large area of woodland managed by The Forestry Commission surrounding the valleys of Euden Beck and Spurlswood Beck. It is provided with car parks (£2 per day when we visited) and a variety of way marked paths. There is also a visitor centre and picnic areas.
Two way marked routes leave the car park near The Grove in the centre of the Forest . These are a 'Woodland Walk' of ¾ mile and 'Spurlswood Walk' of 4 ½ miles. Hamish took his own route utilising public footpaths and forest tracks.
In common with many Forestry Commission sites Hamsterley Forest offers a wealth of safe and interesting walking. The family can enjoy an hour or a whole day here.
