This route is a mix of country lanes and bridleway. It benefits from good views especially when walking south.
This is intended to be a basic route guide only so you will need to follow a map and or the GPX file.
If you would like to receive by e mail a free GPX file (track converted from the trail we walked) produced by our Satmap Active 10 GPS please contact us quoting Tid Whest. Please note this file is for personal use only and must not be further reproduced without our explicit permission. Those wishing to use the file commercially should make their intentions clear when contacting us. Please note we can not guarantee this file will work successfully on any other GPS or that the data might be corrupted in transfer but we are confident, in most cases when it is loaded into a robust GPS, it will greatly assist navigation.
We started up the High Street in Tideswell (becomes Manchester Road) as we were staying nearby at a Peak District dog friendly holiday cottage. A waste bin is available just beyond an industrial building on the edge of the town. Continue on after the end of the 30mph zone along a short section of road without a pavement. Turn left onto a track over the stream opposite a lane on the right. Go up the track and ahead onto a wide track (Water Lane) as you reach it. Water Lane is well enclosed most of the way and Murphy and Lottie were off lead they were back on well before we reached the metalled road at the end of the lane.
Turn left along the road then left at a T junction with a farm house ahead. Turn right almost immediately onto the Pennine Bridleway by the side of the farm. Follow the bridleway to reach a metalled road, then ahead on the road to reach Monksdale House. Cross a road at a T junction to join The Limestone Way (ahead). The Limestone Way is well enclosed and Murphy and Lottie were again off lead. Keep ahead on the Limestone Way until you reach a T junction with gates on the right (through where The Limestone Way continues). Turn left and follow the track.
