This is intended to be a basic route guide only so you will need to follow a map and or the GPX file.
If you would like to receive by e mail a free GPX file (track converted from the trail we walked) produced by our Satmap Active 10 GPS please contact us quoting Tid Cres Dale. Please note this file is for personal use only and must not be further reproduced without our explicit permission. Those wishing to use the file commercially should make their intentions clear when contacting us. Please note we can not guarantee this file will work successfully on any other GPS or that the data might be corrupted in transfer but we are confident, in most cases when it is loaded into a robust GPS, it will greatly assist navigation.
We were staying in a dog friendly cottage nearby and left Tideswell on the B road in the direction of Buxton. Just beyond the Litton turn on the left we crossed the road and took an 'open access land' path down to the car park at the head of Tideswell Dale (rubbish bins and toilets available). We then walked down through the dale to reach a metalled lane at the edge of Litton Mill. We turned left towards the mill then left up a lane opposite the telephone and post boxes. Through gate and uphill keeping right as the track bends that way (not straight on up the footpath). Turn right and go through a couple of gates staying with the track until it reached a metalled road. Right passed the church then left fork through Cressbrook. Keep ahead on footpath as road bends sharp right do. Follow path ahead, go through gate then follow path down field to cross footbridge, then up through Cressbrook Dale to reach A623. Go right then cross road and join footpath on left through farm yard. Across fields and the three stone step stiles to reach Stanley Lodge. Ahead/ right on byway (might have been signposted as a bridleway), keeping left as it bends where a footpath goes straight ahead. Keep ahead when you reach a metalled road (road goes left and right too). Follow road to Great Hucklow, turning left at t junction as you reach it. Turn right onto byway 'unsuitable for motors' just after The Queen Anne pub. Cross the B6049 when the byway joins it onto a metalled road opposite. Follow this through Little Hucklow to a T junction. Turn right then almost immediately left onto another road. Take the first road on the left (at Bushy Head Farm). Follow the road down to the A623 then across into road opposite (Manchester Road) and back to Tideswell.
