Lottie enjoyed the views from Orrest Head on 7 June 2013. We walked up from Windermere close to the railway station. We crossed the main road (A591) slightly downhill from the station via a pelican crossing and joined a bridlepath up a metalled drive just to the right (uphill) of it at grid reference SD4128 9875.
The route follows the metalled drive as it zig-zags uphill (Elleray Bank) with a couple of clearly walked short-cut paths for those who want them. Near the top of the metalled drive a path goes up hill by a wall (just beyond the last property). From the top of there follow a path to the summit (grid reference SD 4143 9937), passing a couple of commemorative benches on the way. The summit offers fantastic views of the fells – and more benches if you’d like to linger. We returned by the same route.
