Start from a car park with picnic tables, children's play area and stream in Abergorlech village. Abergorlech is on the B4310 between the villages of Brechfa and Llansawel (Grid reference SN 5864 3377). There is an information board showing a way marked 2 mile walking route and a way marked cycle trail of 10 miles. It would be possible to combine the two or devise other routes to make longer walks.
Hamish walked the 2 mile route - it leaves the car park via a track leading away from the road, marked with blue marker posts. The route starts off close to a stream, climbing gently uphill but soon leaves the track and becomes a path.
After a steeper uphill section (at SN 5835 3422) there is a sign showing a choice of long and short walks (the long route is about 2 miles). Hamish took the long route, TURNING RIGHT UPHILL . Follow path, next marker also shows a Carmarthenshire Country Walks way marker.
At top of incline you reach a T-junction with a track, TURN LEFT UPHILL soon passing a red marker (downhill to right leads to a ford on the cycle route). You soon reach a cross tracks with cycle routes ahead and to the right. TURN LEFT (DOWNHILL) and follow the blue footpath sign (SN 5788 3446). There were good views on this section when Hamish walked.
Immediately after the next red marker you can TURN LEFT DOWNHILL to reach a blue footpath marker. TURN RIGHT - opposite to the Carmarthenshire Country Walks arrow, then downhill to reach the spot where the long and short walks divided earlier. TURN RIGHT , uphill for a short way to reach a track. TURN LEFT downhill. (Alternatively stay on the track and reach the same point).
The track leads to a drive / lane into Abergorlech. TURN LEFT on reaching road and return to the car park.
