DogPeople Says : Green Barn Cottages

Lottie stayed in The Haystore in December 2012. The accommodation was superb whether viewed from a character, comfort, 'facilities', furnishings or environmental perspective - we don't have room to do justice to its overall quality, suffice to say this is a brilliant conversion. Dog related provision included in our Top Dog rating was tested by Lottie when she needed to, among very useful things we found were the bucket and sponge for washing after a full day on the fells, fenced comfort area and scoop bin, torch for after dark walking and holiday tag. We didn't need other things including shampoo (Lottie didn't get too dirty), towels or scoop bags (we had our own). We thoroughly enjoyed our winter walks in bright sunshine across frozen fells and partially snow covered ridges; two from the door and one from Newbiggin on Lune (about 3 miles away). Two local pubs serve good food in dog friendly bars - these are both about 1.5 miles away along narrow lanes (we walked there and back one evening using the hi-vis vests provided in The Haystore). A stand out stay with two more memorable features; Red Squirrels who came to the patio doors every day (sadly they didn't stay long as Lottie was pretty excited by this too!) and; fantastic night skies that can be viewed through the sky-light windows in the upper sitting area (we enjoyed watching a meteor shower but, if you live anywhere near a town, you will be amazed how much sky there is in this part of Cumbria!).
