DogPeople Says : The Old Coach and Horses

Update September 2013. Lottie visited with the directors for lunch. She was pleased to lay down on the wooden floor of the bar as it was a warm day and she was a bit tired after a visit to dog friendly St. Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury (about 3 miles away) . The bar was pleasantly cool and we had a relaxing meal including potato wedges with a sour cream and sweet chilli dip; lightly baked loin of cod and a king prawn Caesar salad. We also enjoyed Doombar and Thatchers cider but had no room left for any sweets or ice cream. Dogs are welcome in the bar or the garden which has a terrace for outdoor eating under parasols. Previous visit. One of the directors had lunch over a business meeting in September 2010. The atmosphere and people were welcoming and the furnishing and décor bright and comfortable. We needed the internet and WiFi was easily available (and full strength). The beer was good – one of Shepherd Neame’s seasonal ales, Whitstable Bay, was on and would have been more thoroughly enjoyed had it not been necessary to drive afterwards! The food was excellent and good value for money (our director had an excellent prawn and avocado salad). Harbledown is a delightful village right on the edge of Canterbury (on the old A2 Watling Street) as is wonderfully placed for a business meeting without all the hassle of the city centre – The Old Coach and Horses would be a great for a purely social event (especially as the menu had lots of more substantial dishes) or to start and finish a country walk.
