Hamish stopped overnight in September 2006 en-route to the West Country. On arrival we enjoyed a drink in the bar where we met our hosts Mike and Megan as well as the resident black Labrador ‘Marley’. The spacious courtyard bedroom had a large comfortable bed for Hamish’s people and was especially suitable for an older dog as it was on the ground floor. The large well equipped bathroom had a bath and overhead power shower as well as plenty of room for Hamish’s water bowl. In the evening we had a bar meal with Hamish. This is a popular pub for locals including families and their dogs. There is good walking nearby including an easy going walk along a disused railway track and the long distance Ridgeway path. Hamish enjoyed walking on parts of both of these paths in the afternoon, some of the time ‘off the lead’. Ogbourne St George is a quiet Wiltshire village with a number of attractive thatched buildings. We returned with Murphy and Lottie in October 2014 mid way through a walk from Marlborough (we went the long way via the gallops and The Ridgeway but took the short route back via the old railway line). We were delighted to find Marley looking fit and happy and to receive the same welcome as on or previous visit. As we were trying to burn off a few calories built up on our family get-together in Marlborough we had a sandwich and soft drink lunch. Both were fine; we could see from the bar and menu a good range of food and drinks would have been available had we wanted them. A warm welcome from the hosts (and Marley!) and the locals makes this well worth a visit whether walking, cycling or driving out for a meal - why not stay a night and make the most of it?
