Update June 2015. The hotel now has new owners Jonathan and Jackie but dogs are still welcome to visit. Hamish stayed for a long weekend during February 2006. He shared a spacious well equipped ground floor en-suite bedroom with his people. The room had it’s own front door into the courtyard ideal for morning and evening convenience walks without disturbing other guests. There was also a handy outdoor tap and hose nearby for washing dirty dog feet etc. (but Hamish prefers a bowl and sponge – so we always pack these). The proprietors, their staff, other guests and locals warmly welcomed Hamish. The nights were chilly so he lay near to the open fire. We stayed on an inclusive three course evening meal package which was great value - a choice of dishes and good size portions (on two days we could only manage two courses each!). The smoked haddock and lamb shoulder dishes were excellent. For more details see photo of menu board in picture gallery. Breakfasts were tasty and freshly prepared to order. The Hand is a great base for a short break or holiday. There is varied walking (low or high level) straight from the door-step or within a short drive. Hamish recorded three circular walks (see walks directory for Wrexham – coming soon) during his stay. Some of the staff and locals in the bar are happy to provide advice about route ideas. The Hand can also advise on other country pursuits available locally such as fishing or shooting. Ssh! – the Ceiriog Valley is a hidden gem of unspoilt beauty and The Hand a fabulous place to explore it from … don’t tell too many people!
