Our directors stayed in December 2011 without a dog. There was plenty of parking (through a narrow coach entrance), a real advantage in busy Eton. Our room, on the first floor, was spacious and comfortable with sitting area and en-suite bathroom (not dog friendly – see below). Easily controlled room heating / air conditioning was a bonus as the weather was chilly. Dogs are welcome at reception, bar and courtyard bedrooms (good for dogs with their own front doors at ground level). The hotel can give access to a field owned by Eton College at the rear of the car park for dog walking (accessed via a gate; get combination from reception). A puppy King Charles Spaniel was staying in a courtyard room and we met a Staffordshire Terrier (apparently a regular) in the bar and a Border Terrier with her people who had bar meals. We were pleased to see both were made very welcome and given fresh water. We enjoyed three breakfasts and were impressed by a good selection of cereals, cold meats, cheese and pastries. Variations of cooked breakfast were enjoyed; excellent poached (coddled?) eggs, tasty scrambled eggs (both with bacon) and a good full English. We ate in the bar one evening. Our package for the first night included a restaurant meal but we discovered when we came down to eat the restaurant was fully booked for a Christmas party. The bar was busy and noisy. When we protested we were told we could swap our meal to another evening if we preferred. Rather than go out in search of a table on a Saturday evening we decided to stay. Fortunately the bar quickly quietened and we enjoyed crispy duck salad, fillet of Seabass and apple crumble with custard included in our meals. The Christopher is a good base for exploring both Eton and Windsor by foot. There is easy access to The Thames Path, other riverside walks and Windsor Great Park is approximately 15 minutes from the door.
