DogPeople Says : Trigony House Hotel

Top Dog and top drawer. The directors stayed for two nights in June 2011 in a Garden View room with a good sized en suite bathroom. The comfortable room would have been large enough for a couple of small dogs or one large dog. On arrival we were welcomed by one of the house dogs ‘Roxy’ a gentle and friendly Golden Retriever, we met the other, a Dachshund, the following morning. This is a very dog friendly hotel and we can vouch for the top dog attributes on their Dogpeople rating. Dog guests staying included a black Labrador on a repeat visit, a long haired Jack Russell, a four dog group including a Spaniel, Weimaraner and two terriers and a miniature Schnauzer. Dogs cannot go into the restaurant but are welcome in the bar with their owners where breakfast and other meals can be served. Alternatively dogs can be left in bedrooms or an enclosed area within the garden. Dogs are also welcome in the lounge which has a log burner for colder days. The hotel is surrounded by a lovely garden where dog guests can be exercised and includes an on-site dog waste bin and scoop bags. We spoke to the Labrador’s owner when we arrived and the four dog group when we bumped into them later in our trip – all were delighted with Trigony’s dog friendliness. The hotel’s staff were friendly and helpful and happy to provide extras, such as fresh milk for in room beverages, and advice about suitable places to walk nearby for humans and four legged friends. On the food front we enjoyed some very good meals including starters of pigeon with haggis and chicken liver pate with homemade toast, main courses of mullet fillets, duck and rabbit in a smoked bacon and bean cassolet with red wine, and sweets including profiteroles filled with butterscotch cream. Breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and included fruit salad, delicious organic yoghurt and large tasty Scottish breakfasts. All of the food was excellent – the pigeon starter was exceptional.
