The directors stayed as part of a 7 man, 1 woman walking group in October 2009. We occupied two cottages, Blencathra and Saddleback during our 4 night short break. A Patterdale Terrier was staying in the third cottage – and we were pleased to meet others staying in the hotel. Hamish stayed at home with the family as Blencathra via narrow ridge (Hall’s Fell) was on the agenda. We didn’t test the cottages’ cookers – we had breakfast in the inn (30 seconds walk from our front doors) and two group evening meals there too – fantastic! Everyone agreed the breakfasts and evening meals were excellent – we tried almost every combination of breakfasts (poached eggs especially good – it’s amazing easy it is to get these ‘wrong’ … but not here) and every item on the a la carte evening menu. Fell walks, including Blencathra, are a short drive away. We also walked Buttermere via Haystacks on another day and a partial circumnavigation of Ullswater on another.
