Hamish stayed for three nights in June 2009. He was delighted to find so many other dog guests – he met a Border Collie, a Labradoodle, a Springer Spaniel, a Cocker Spaniel, a Weimaraner and a Bedlington Terrier! Ox Pasture has a number of positives from a dog’s point of view – 17 acres of grounds for walking, a fine building with ground floor rooms arranged around a central garden (great for meeting canine companions) and longer walks available from the front door. From peoples’ points of view the hotel offers good standard accommodation, a bar and choice of restaurant (not dog friendly) or brasserie for meals and a beautiful location. We enjoyed breakfasts –self service arrangements for cereals and fruit followed by cooked breakfasts (we tried every combination of eggs and were especially pleased with the way both fried and poached were cooked). The sausages were exceptional – very ‘meaty’. Hamish wasn’t allowed in to breakfast but we had no problem settling him in our room whilst we went to breakfast (he is a very experienced traveller and had already been ‘on the road’ for well over a week – don’t leave your dog unless you are confident he will be OK and you have checked with the hotel). We saved Hamish a little sausage to have when we returned to the room. We ate one meal in the brasserie. Overall it was good but a mussels starter included several that failed to open (chef came to the table to apologise and we weren’t charged) – the other director’s three course meal was very good. When we returned from a slightly muddy woodland walk we borrowed a bowl to wash Hamish’s feet (we brought our own towel and sponge). This is a good place to stay with your dog – as many responsible owners have already found.
