Update Setember 2014 - dogs are now allowed in some public areas of the hotel, including the music room and bar. The directors stayed for a night in June 2011 in a comfortable upstairs bedroom. This was our first trip since we lost Hamish and have tried to report as best we can on its dog friendly attributes. Dogs are welcome in four hotel bedrooms, all on the ground floor and with direct access to the courtyard - Rowan and Yew in an annexe, Walnut and Elm in the main hotel. We were shown around Walnut, it was a lovely spacious double room with a good size en-suite. We were told dog guests are offered special dog treats in the bedroom on arrival, at the time of our visit these were locally made ‘Woofy Puffs’ and ‘Bitesize Cherry Barkwells’. Chef has created a special ‘Four Paws Menu’ so you can treat your best friend if you want to. Other dog services include a spare lead for loan and scoop bags available on request. Outdoors there are dog drinking bowls and a ‘Four Paws Cleaning Station’ for hosing off muddy feet etc.. The hotel is set in a lovely garden with a number of grassed areas to explore. We noted several dustbins on a driveway at the rear of the hotel and were informed the owner was planning to install a proper poop scooper bin shortly. Dogs are not allowed in public areas of the main hotel. There are wooden tables on the front terrace where you could enjoy a drink or possible a light snack with your best friend. If you choose to eat in the restaurant (which we did) your best friend will either have to sit outside or stay in your room. On the food front we had a four course gourmet dinner, the highlights were a duck terrine starter and crème brulee but one of the main courses, a venison dish, was not served with its accompanying roe deer faggot. Breakfasts are freshly cooked to order and we both enjoyed cereal with homemade vanilla seed yoghurt and fluffy scrambled egg with smoked salmon.
