Key Info:
At Whithorn on the A746. Grid reference NX 444402.

Description:
One of the earliest Christian sites in Scotland, Whithorn was traditionally held to be founded by St Ninian in the fifth/sixth century. In the twelveth century a priory for Premonstratensians was built here and became the cathedral church of Galloway. Whilst little of the Priory survives today, visitors may still follow the pilgrimage route taken by medieval pilgrims to visit the shrine of St Ninian located in the vault of the Priory.

Opening Times:
Visit Historic Scotland's website for details.

Dog Restrictions:
Dogs are permitted in the grounds if kept on a leash. They are not permitted in roofed buildings. Owners are asked to be sensitive to the effect of their dogs on others, esepcially children. Poop scoops are available from the steward at staffed sites. Please clear up after your dog.
