Above Dover town on W side of harbour.(OS Map 179; ref TR 312408). Reasonable walk from Dover Priory Railway Station (uphill). Good walking nearby including other military sites (see walks directory) occasionally walked by Hamish and his best friend Tia in past years.
A huge fortification begun during the Napoleonic Wars and completed in the 1860s, designed to protect Dover from French invasion. Only the moat can be visited. Part of the White Cliffs Countryside Project.
All year at any reasonable time. Parts of the site are opened to the public for tours and events throughout the year.
