Castle cafe not managed by English Heritage, weekends only Apr-May, daily Jun-Sep. 1.5 mile walk on shingle spit from Milford-on-Sea . Best approached by ferry from Keyhaven - call 01590 642500 for ferry details and fares (OS Map 196; ref SZ 319898).

Description:
One of the most advanced of the artillery fortresses built by Henry VIII: used as a prison for eminent 17th-century captives, and later strengthened during the 19th and 20th centuries. It commands the narrow entrance to the Solent.
