Key Info:
13km south east of Dumfries on the B725. Parking available a short distance away. Visitors with disabilities can be dropped near the property. A nature trail in the nearby woodlands is not suitable for those using wheelchairs or visitors with limited mobility. Video presentation available.

With its moat, twin towered gatehouse and imposing battlements, Caerlaverock Castle is the epitome of the medieval stronghold. The castle’s turbulent history owes much to its proximity to England which brought it into border conflicts. Today, visitors can enjoy a siege warfare exhibition, a children’s adventure park and a nature trail. The shop features a range of local products made in Dumfries and Galloway.

Opening Times:
Visit Historic Scotland's website for details.

Dog Restrictions:
Dogs are permitted in the grounds if kept on a leash. They are not permitted in roofed buildings. Owners are asked to be sensitive to the effect of their dogs on others, esepcially children. Poop scoops are available from the steward at staffed sites. Please clear up after your dog.
