Hamish took a safari in April 2005. He was still in the process of recovering from his cruciate ligament operation so this was a great opportunity for us all to see some of the less accessible bits of Exmoor. Alison drove our safari – she knew about Hamish’s leg so took extra care on the bumpiest sections. She is a very experienced driver and has fantastic wildlife awareness (she spotted a very pale Buzzard sitting quite a way from the lane). She also has good local knowledge that enabled her to find the Red Deer and make the off road sections interesting. On top of this Alison has a good knowledge on plant life and relevant history – we all enjoyed the experience. The Barle Valley is beautiful and the Land Rover safari is a great way to see it. Binoculars, a bird reference book and Alison’s knowledge and experience all add to the enjoyment. If you’re not used to ‘off roading’ I hope you will enjoy the off road trails as much as we did!
