One of the directors stayed four nights with the family walking group in May 2010. Hamish had to stay at home as the distances would have been too much for him (we walked 38 miles with over 7500 feet of ascent in three days and one afternoon). I asked the family to sum things up in two word answers; on the accommodation they said ‘very good’, on breakfast ‘spot on’ and overall ‘nothing skimped’. The accommodation is certainly very good, a beautifully developed house full of character and every convenience with furnishings to match. The breakfasts were fabulous – scrambled eggs and salmon were highly commended by two of us, every combination of ‘full English’ was tried and applauded and the poached eggs were great. On top of this was the usual array of cereals, fruit and juices (most combinations tried), home made bread for the toast (with a toast warmer to keep it perfect for home made marmalade or jam after the main event). The welcome was superb – with advice on all sorts if you need it – the village has a couple of pubs, there’s enough off road parking, pretty gardens and I enjoyed meeting Strider (the house dog). We all liked it!
