Hamish visited in April 2008. He found the treats left out for him in the room before we spotted them – and was very pleased with himself and the treats! Hamish was also provided with a food bowl and pet fork. There was a dog blanket too – but Hamish didn’t need this as he always takes his bed away with him. The room was comfortable with a fine chunky duvet on the bed – just the trick as there was still some snow on the hills. The en-suite was compact with a powerful and flexible shower. Free to use WIFI was available in the room – very handy for keeping up with the e mail. The room had a comprehensive ‘welcome pack’ and other information too (including a local walks guide). Tracy was always ready to help with local information – or anything else we might have needed. Breakfasts were good, literally cooked to order using as much local produce as possible. The bacon was especially good. We tried just about every possible combination of breakfast options during our stay and were very pleased every time. Walking options are available from the door or within a short drive – see the Walks Directory for a couple of routes. Our hosts are clearly responsible dog owners themselves (Hamish was pleased to meet Mr Fish and Bracken) and go out of their way to make dog guests welcome – as well as the treats, bowls and pet fork Hamish borrowed a towel, could have used the scoop bags available (if we didn’t already have a good supply with us) and had his own bowl with a Bonio type biscuit at breakfast time. Tracy would also have ‘dog sat’ for him if we’d wanted to go out in the evening without him. Our hosts aim for a friendly, homely atmosphere. We certainly felt relaxed and know Hamish did too. If you don’t already know about the pleasures of the Durham countryside this will be a good place to stay to find out what you’ve been missing.
