Duncan Down is a 19 hectare village green protected by Common Land Regulations (and the sterling efforts of members of  Friends of Duncan Down).  It is a mixture of wide grass paths, briar and lightly wooded areas. It is situated on the west side of Borstal Hill (on the A290 Canterbury to Whitstable road) the main gateway to Whitstable.

Access can be gained via Borstal Avenue, Stanley Road, Clovelly Road and Gordon Road.

The Down is a local amenity space used by many dog owners. Dog waste bins are provided between the Borstal Avenue and Clovelly Road access points, near St Andrew's Close and by the entrance from Stanley Road. There are a number of benches.

This is a safe spot for a convenience walk or a longer leisurely stroll. Some care is necessary with other users of the land who can include horse riders, picnickers and small children. Good views of the town, open sea, Swale estuary and Isle of Sheppey can be obtained. The Sun setting over the Island and open water is a delight.

Hamish is a regular visitor and enjoys a wide range of canine company and wildlife scents.
