  1. Directors’ stay at The Traddock, Austwick in The Yorkshire Dales

A Dogpeople Says link has been added to The Traddock’s hotel directory entry following our recent stay.  Read our thoughts below.  Everything was good quality in a fine character house in a wonderful walking location.  The directors spent an enjoyable day walking to and from Ingleborough via Gaping Gill, Ingleborough Show Caves and Clapham (shame the cloud was sitting on the top 800 feet or so of Ingleborough – well you can’t have everything!).

The directors stayed in June 2011. First impressions were good with a warm, friendly and professional welcome including a short tour of the main public areas. We stayed in a spacious ground floor mini suite with a cosy lounge area and en-suite bathroom. The room can be set with a comfortable king size or with twin beds. We were pleased to find fluffy bathrobes, fresh fruit, homemade biscuits and magazines and books. The suite has its own heating controls. This would be a great room for a stay with dogs; as well as being accessed via the main hotel one can use a separate door straight into the garden. The gardens were well laid with beautiful borders and grassed and outdoor seating areas. Dog guests can use the garden hosepipe for cleaning muddy paws etc. and an on-site dog waste bin is provided. Dogs are welcome on a lead in the lounges and bar but not the restaurant (and breakfast room). We briefly met a two year old cross breed and his owners who appeared to be enjoying their stay. The hotel guestbook sets out a clear dog policy; dogs can be left in rooms unattended but not for long periods. We noticed several tables in the bar which may be suitable to eat a meal at. If taking a meal with your dog is important to you we strongly suggest you check this possibility before making a booking. This brings us onto food; we are pleased to report it was very good overall. Highlights for us included Pressed Hornby Chicken and Tarragon Terrine, Pan Fried Seabass, Roast Rump of Mansergh Hall New Season Lamb, Summer Berry Pudding with Clotted Cream Ice Cream and Trio of Lemons (quite exceptional). We enjoyed breakfasts and were impressed by home created muesli and hazelnut crunch cereals and a range of fruits with smoked haddock with poached egg notable among our freshly cooked choices. There are plenty of walks from the door and the hotel will produce bespoke maps on request.
