About Dogpeople Limited
Have you found it difficult to find somewhere good to eat with your dog, or places to visit when you want more than a walk? How about finding a good place to stay? We certainly have!
We established this site in 2002 for responsible dog people who want to include their best friends in their holidays and days out. We want to provide an alternative for those who might consider leaving their dog in the car whilst they visit an attraction (please don't do it!) or for those who either give up holidays or put their dogs in kennels every time they go away. It is for people who care about their dogs and respect the places they visit.
Although our site is primarily aimed at dog people its information will be useful for others too.
We have enjoyed many UK holidays with Hamish, our Airedale Terrier (and inspiration for this site). Before we established this site our success was often the result of painstaking research using a variety of sources of information - combined with a fair measure of good luck! We aim, through this site, to significantly increase the success of your research for both holidays and days out. This should assure a welcome from our advertisers to responsible dog owners and their dogs. Hopefully this will encourage you to spend more days out with your dog and to get more from your holidays with him or her.
We are keen to promote responsible dog ownership because we believe it will increase acceptance of dogs. For example, we always take a towel with us if Hamish is likely to be muddy by the time we reach a pub etc. When staying away we take the same care with his paws etc. as we do at home. We take it for granted that dog owners will clean up after their dogs in public places but, sadly, too frequently witness cases where this isn't so. To help spread responsible ownership, and help potential holiday makers and day trippers see what our advertisers offer, we introduced our unique dog friendly rating system in 2008 – click here for more details on the system and to see the logos that appear when a rating has been achieved.
Since the site has been running we have visited a number of customers - see what we found by clicking on our Dogpeople Says logo when it appears in a directory entry. We try to be as balanced and honest as possible – even though this has resulted in the loss of some customers who were discontent with comments. As Hamish can’t get to as many customers as we would like – especially as he’s slowed down – we have enlisted the help of a selection of his canine companions (and their owners).
Check out our Area Search (via the home page) to help plan a holiday or short break or use the individual directory links on the left of every page. The search facility at the foot of the home page helps search in a specific location (town, near town and county) and can be used to return all results for each directory type - hotels, B&Bs, holiday parks, self catering holidays, pubs and places to eat or attractions (places to visit) – simply leave town / county blank and hit search.
As Hamish grew older (see About Hamish) we found it more important to plan walks for him – especially dog friendliness as he’s a big boy to lift too often. This helped grow our free to use (private use) Walks Directory. Check what we have to offer.
Our Links Directory provides lots of dog related information. If you’d like us to consider adding a link for you contact us.
Keep up to date with new advertisers, customers’ offers, news items, new walk routes and other dog related information via our News Updates section. Why not subscribe to our periodic E-Newsletters too?
Steady progress, and growing success of the site, has attracted unwelcome attention from e mail scammers (or spammers) who regularly use a variety of email accounts that appear to be ours. These purport to sell recreational drugs and a variety of other ‘offers’. We very much regret this but have been unable to prevent the mails.
We continue to seek new ways of developing the service we provide to our advertising customers and site visitors everywhere. Please contact us if you have any comments or suggestions.
